Feelings of Mountains and Water (Part 2/2)

Feelings of Mountains and Water (also known by several other names, including Emotion From Mountain and River, Love of Mountains and Water, Love of Nature, Landscapes, and Landscape Love) is a Chinese animated short, originally released in 1988, and directed by Te Wei, one of China's most prominent animation directors (Shanchun Yan and Kexuan Ma are credited as co-directors). This film uses his distinct "brush painting" technique, which mimics traditional Chinese watercolor painting. This was the last film Te Wei made, and it has won numerous awards at film festivals around the world. This short is featured on several DVD collections of Chinese animation, including the 2-disc Te Wei Collection and the disc that comes with the book 30 Years of Artistic Animation in China, written by Hong Chang and Yuzhong Xu.

In a literal sense, it's about the knowledge and traditions of one generation (the old man) being passed on to the next generation (the young student). There are also several symbolic meanings. Since this was the last film that Te Wei worked on, and the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s ushered in a drastically new era of Chinese animation, some see the film as a general message about the old animators were quickly giving way to new ones.
