This deer is a member of the Bravo Clan, a city dwelling heard that I come across on a regular basis while wildlife prowling. Thermal imaging shows that its right/rear hoof is inflamed from aliment or injury. The deer also walks with a notable limp. The last time I encountered this deer it appeared considerably improved.

  • What kind of camera is this?

  • This video was taken with a FLIR E65 thermal imager with the zoom option, high temp option, latest motherboard upgrade and 17mm lens. The video was recorded by porting the video output of the thermal imager into a Samsung SC-X300L Sports Camcorder.

  • how does a deer injure itself? i always thought animals are very unlikely to twist/dislocate their legs because of their innate skill...

  • Because this is a city dwelling deer it is a good bet that it was hit by a vehicle. We have a substantial deer population in and around the city and one or two get hit almost every day. Unfortunately the culture here dictates that having forward awareness when in control of a couple of tons of death and destruction is far less important than say, daydreaming.
