Aikido techniques are derived from sword fighting. You could pick up a sword and have the essentials of movement needed. IM not very experienced with Aikido, Im a black belt in JUDO but all circular martial arts have the idea of capturing the inertia of the linear technique and exploiting it with circular motion. No one does this better than Aikido.

@slapupchrist But what about the tehniques? Isn't tehniques important for you? This video doesn't show you aikido in action for sure. It will look different, because you are watching stylished aikido. But look for Rik Ellis Aikido in MMA and you will see it in real fighting. Aikido has real counters and real strikes, so don't underestimate any fighting style.

riisimees, fighting is simply competition. COMPETITION means individuals trying to defeat one another. Defeat can be achieved by escaping an attack or repelling an attack or attacking an attack. Self defence is simply competition of a sort.
The way you compete with someone is by RESISTING their moves/motives. Resistance is achieved by simply actively NOT going along with the attack. That is, doing something that counters it.
Aikido is not trained in a competitive/resisting fashion.

@slapupchrist My point was that: even if you try to resist any tehnique then no one starts to wrestle with you. You must fight, not resist.

@slapupchrist I don't know maybe you are right but I wouldn't dare to fight C. Tissier. Even though I have been doing different martial arts for a while. Maybe you dare? Maybe you can show him your "resistance". I'd love to see it.
DO U THINK THAT CAN TAKE DOWN BROCK LESNAR OR KIMBO OR ANY GUY WHO WEIGHS MORE THAN 250LB PURE MUSCLE?

@killthemall55 I don't Know. Do you think YOU can?
Problem is different. Problem is: do you think HE can take me down using this technics? I think he can.
So I think the problem is not the technics....!

The important thing to understand here, is that aikido is not at all like real fighting. Just because some of the locks would do damage if uke didn't 'go with the technique' doesn't mean those locks are realistic in a real fight. The problem with TMA is that it teaches damaging techniques from a COOPERATIVE beginning. So, if uke hadn't let Nage grip the joint for the lock, the lock wouldn't have been applied. Real fighting is about using techniques AGAINST RESISTANCE. Aikido is not about that.

thisi is what it seems. Aikido doesn't teach how to lock. Locks are only the end of a change. The beginning is : Attack-Position safe and, in the same time, dangerous for the attacker.
In the real fight danger become immediatly material and the fight will end.
In the aikido the target is teach how to understand the danger, how to use and how to escape it.
Lock and projections aren't dangerous if you know how to deblock yourself and how to fall....Don't you?
