This video shows the shocking extent of the slaughtering of moorland ponies on Dartmoor - it shows the number of moorland ponies that have been killed by ONE slaughterman - one white pony for each moorland pony killed. On Dartmoor, more than 1000 "Hill" ponies have been slaughtered since the 2010 autumn roundups. Only one of the slaughterers has admitted exactly how many he has killed. Foals, pregnant mares and colts have been slaughtered on farms, and then either incinerated or processed for zoo meat.
This mass slaughtering has been set up as a "sustainable welfare scheme" by a pony association whose breeders refuse to remove stallions to stop the breeding of unwanted ponies. Culling is still continuing, and plans are already in place to slaughter this year's foals that will be born only for the purpose of being on display for the tourist season.
Breeders of "Heritage" and purebred Dartmoor ponies are responsible pony keepers and have removed their stallions, and have worked to ensure that no unwanted foals are born. These associations and South West Equine Protection (SWEP) need your support to ensure that ALL the moorland stallions are removed from Dartmoor in order to stop the needless annual mass slaughter of unwanted ponies.
