A look across to BAE Scotstoun (yarrows) on and fine August afternoon in 2010. The twin tower blocks in the background are being brought down. Picked down rather than blown down. I'm sure BAE wouldn't be happy with a cloud of concrete covering their newbuilds. These are the blocks my first videos where taken from. Egg boxes in the sky that needed to go..The ships are DIAMOND (D34) alongside the Wall, DRAGON (D35) in No.2 dry dock and the Trinidad & Tobago OPV SCARBOROUGH (CG51) up at the east berth. This land was once three seperate shipyards. The fitting out quay where DIAMOND sits was once the West Yard of Barclay, Curle & Co before it became the Elderslie Dockyard, the land in the middle of the shot with the peach coloured office was the original Yarrow & Co shipyard with the old slipways and basin still there and the covered hall with the BAE sign was the Blythswood shipyard. Through time both the Elderslie and Blythwood's were taken over by Yarrow's. Today known as BAE Scotstoun. The premier warship builder in the UK. Her sister yard is upriver and over at Govan. Govan is the steel work centre and Scotstoun is the outfitting centre. Together they are second to none in the UK.
