Actually it was the Aztecs who encountered the Spanish conquistadors. At that point in time the Mayan civilization had been long gone! Besides, the only predictions the Maya ever make with their calenders are positions of planets, stars, and other space stuff. They never predicted the end of the world or any other doomsday crap.

guys the world will not end on december 21st 2012 it will be another winter soltice (i think thats how u spell it) and the calender ended on that date cause it probaly did not have room.And the world will end in 7 billion years when the sun dies.

They prophecised that the spanish would come in the year 'One Reed' of a 52-year calendar cycle. In 1519, a 'One Reed' year, a fair-skinned stranger lands on the east coast. The Aztecs welcome him as Quetzalcoatl. He is the Spanish conquistador Cortes.
