This video was inspired by a recent english essay assignment and here is a copy of that essay :
The Heroes in My Life
Heroes come in many different backgrounds and all walks of life .If someone came up to you and asked this question, In your life who would you characterize as a hero and who would it be? My heroes are not celebrities but ordinary men in their lifetimes become what I characterize as heroes in my life.
My first hero is someone who lived during the 1800s and the reason Joseph Smith is characterized as a hero is for standing up for what he believed in. He was a man with little education and in his heart desired something more .When I think of what Joseph Smith went through with all the turmoil and hell to bring about a new religion gives me strength and hope. The story of Josephs life is the story of a miracle. He was born in poverty. He was reared in adversity. He was driven from place to place, falsely accused, and illegally imprisoned. He was murdered at the age of thirty eight. Yet in the brief space of twenty years preceding his death, he accomplished in an entire lifetime, was said by Gordon B. Hinckley president of the church. Joseph Smith became a martyred for the truths of his beliefs and even today millions know him and what his life meant. I am thankful for him as my hero because without Joseph Smith I wouldnt have the church in my life at all.
Another person I characterize as a hero in my life was someone who inspired millions on humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and education funding around the globe. Gordon B. Hinckley served others through out his life and inspired the youth to do the same while standing for something. A good reason why I have him as me hero is because Gordon B. Hinckley was a wonderful teacher. He taught me on how I can be prepared for any disaster with food storage. Gordon B. Hinckley has been called a man for all seasons and I know he was just that .One of his great teachings that I can recall was when he spoke to all the youth of the church. He gave the youth six Bs in our lives which are; be clean, be smart, be humble, be prayerful and be grateful and to this day I use them in my daily life.
The last person who I characterize as a hero in my life is Brigham Young .Brigham Young was a remarkable man who became a modern day Moses. He led the pioneers from Nauvoo to the great Slat Lake territory. When I think about this man and how loyal he was to his family, friends and religion, did service unto others, and establish many towns in the Utah territory gives me the privilege to learn about him. Brigham Young once said, Education is the power to think clearly, the power to act well in the worlds work, and the power to appreciate life. I can say that this inspired me to do more and appreciate life.
These great men who I characterize as heroes in my life are truly an inspiration to me. They are not celebrities but spiritual leaders who in their own times became heroes by their actions and beliefs. I am so grateful for their wisdom and guidance to help me in my every day life.
