The AutoCopter A model is programmed to flight a set of waypoints next to the NRI facility. The operator signals the AutoCopter to takeoff - the AutoCopter takes off autonomously, flies the programmed path, and lands entirely on its own.

  • You are getting some very stable images with the onboard camera setup.

The helicopter moves rather slow in forward flight, from what I see in the video.

What is the top speed of this machine?

  • This helicopter has been phased out. The replacement (with turbine engine) will probably top out at 50 mph.

  • Bravo, Bravo, very cool technology, great control of craft and last shot shows silver duct tape holding wires to skids. What would we do without duct tape?

  • The "wires" are serial cables. ;) We show the videos "as is" - whether it was a normal flight test day or a "look pretty" demo day. Many times various configurations are changed in the field and yes ... duct tape "is the tool of professionals". ;)

  • Yep, the turbine at TWICE the fuel burn. It's the "Binford Tools" complex.
