Dean Baker is 100% spot on when he observes that Obama didn't construct a large enough stimulus, didn't do enough with the package he constructed and didn't communicate the program properly to the public.

As a result, the US government now has a group of senseless deficit hawks influencing fiscal policy and proposing senseless austerity budgets which will be counter-productive to economic growth.

  • Thanks for the video. It´s a real good one.

  • Of course, the federal government should spend until the private sector take over and unemployment is reduced. The Republicans know this and are still pushing for deficit reduction. Why? I'm thinking that their corporate backers want a high rate of unemployment to push wages down even more. I'm not in favour of pork barrel spending though, which is misallocation of federal funds. Let's see a really huge infrastructure program.
