@jolene1959 What a great version of Don't Think Twice you posted - thnx really made my day. Missed this last tour and am so jealous of you all. But I did see Suze Rotolo on 4th street (!) about 5 years ago (didn't say anything) & got to take her photo with Todd Haynes at the premiere of I'm Not There - when asked what she thought her reply was "well you know it's all about me", and then laughed. So sweet. My thought was that she was reporting back to bob about the film, but what do I know - ha!
@viewmasterG If he is singing this song in memory of Suze all the time-only Bob knows this. But it` s a fact that this woman has had so much influence on Bob and what he became later, that he must feel a lot of gratitude to her. It was a lucky twist ot fate that they met , that`s for sure and he will know. Am reading her book just now, it`s so moving! So sad she died...
@viewmasterG well yeah, it kinda makes sense, in that album he is talking about love, not about one person, but the feeling, and all of his relationships. it would be very kind from bob doing that
@MarianoJRibeiro yes, i thought that too. but him playing it every night in the same slot every night this tour made me rethink that. now i'm thinking the park they sat together in was washington square. and that all those songs on Blood are a mixture of many girls. Which I should have realized all along. He's never specific. Suze btw could easily be the girl who gave him the " book by an Italian poet from the 13th century." He hasn't sung that verse live for a long time, but he's doing it now.
Actually, I did a search last night & this came up:
‘Simple Twist of Fate’ is about Suze Rotolo. It’s original title had ‘Fourth Street Affair’ as a subtitle and once whilst performing it in 1981 he included the line ‘Suze, and the way that she talks’ making it explicitly clear what the song is about.
Now that I realize this, I wouldn't be surprised if various verses in some of the songs on BOTT were about Suze.
@hanghang71 I know these feelings, think we all know...behind every beautiful thing there`s some kind of pain...we should look at "it`s not dark yet" more than at " it`s getting there"...Love from Jolene
