  • @cjacja21 The group is called the Coleridge Ensemble. We recorded this cd in 1998.

  • So provocatively sad & heart-wrenching. Such talent squandered in the Jim Crow south no less. Strength over adversity must have been the aphorism of Mr. Coleridge's soul.

  • @darioteich The setting is what makes this special, and the skill needed to accomplish this should not be underestimated. This is far more than a statement of a folk tune. Shape, structure and extension all reside here in an example of terrific compositional craft and inspiration.

  • Nice and surprising version. But this is a classic anonymous negro spiritual, not a music composed by Coleridge-Taylor. Thanks for posting it.
