  • Keep on cleaning, you can do it, you can do it! :) When in doubt, throw it out. We totally admire your courage.

  • @SpicyChiliPepper3254 thanks!! I haven't stopped though I did take a break this weekend. yay me! =^-^=

  • I gave myself the excuse for not cleaning for a while. I have a hiatal hernia that causes chest pain and breathing trouble at times. But today I worked on just the bathroom. I threw away a lot of stuff I thought was worth a few bucks. Why? Because the $50 in other things tossed, made the bathroom look great! I plan on working 5X5 feet at a time until I get the house clean enought for my son to have friends over.

  • @rhode74 yeah!!!!! go you! just keep at it. and another thing I like to do is while i am walking in the general direction of my trash can. I am on the look out for things i can just pink up along the way and just toss... i mean, why not? I am on my way over there anyways. =^-^=

  • Suze Orman said that when people clean their house they should donate their stuff rather than try to sell it. If you try to sell it then you tend to hold on to your stuff longer. Once you've donated your stuff then you won't feel the need to donate cash to these various charities.

  • @IBMeddling i don't feel the need to donate to charities as i am poor enough to need charity myself... but i totally believe what you said is correct about holding onto things longer just because i mean to sell it. i;ve actually suffered from that exact problem. i have so much confidence in the consignment store that i take my stuff to that i am completely getting past that hurtle now. I do have to say however.. i am not my mother. I can let go of things, sooo there is hope for me i think. =^-^=

  • You're right, it is a health hazard, and you should NOT be walking around in it in your bare feet! I saw no evidence of pets, but there is definitely bad bacteria hanging around in there just waiting for a chance at an open wound. Please put something on your feet to protect them from injury and infection!!

  • The unfortunate thing with hoarders who don't get help is that the task normally falls on other family memebers. You're a brave woman tackling that job but you'll get there and you'll feel such a sense of accomplishment! I applaud you for doing this! Good luck and all the best in the future!

  • I would totally help you, I absolutely hate messes. Everything in my world has to be perfect!

  • @JuvieFirst No evidence of pets? You missed the cat and the dog?? I hope she has made progress. It's so hard and I am worried about them and the pets. Can we get an update on you guys?

  • I don't think you should be cleaning that house by yourself. If you look around, you will likely find a hoarder house cleaning service. They would operate very rapidly, and empty that place within a day with a crew of men and trash buckets. Giving them rights to salvage might cover much of the cost.

You are throwing away valuable time and money NOT taking that option.

Unless you are sure to loose something of value taking that road, you should do it.

  • Girl, you are so very brave and honest! You can do this. You will do this! You do sound so determined. And your honesty about the situation will carry you a long way!

  • Wow you have great patients for dealing with that, i would have just burned everything regardless of who has a problem with it

  • so you know that everything in the garage is one step out of the house. When it is full get rid of it then start on another part and repeat the routine till everything is manageable don't clean until you get rid of all the rubbish and are just left with what you want to keep BUT BE STRICT with yourself and your dad. Maybe it might help to document what you would like to keep but know you must get rid of so you have a record of what you once treasured, that is how I am going to deal with my mess

  • There is actually an Hoarder Syndrome that people can suffer from. I am a bit of an hoarder, so I understand a bit. It takes me months to get my head around actually letting something go, but I have to be strict with myself. But you need to start in one room, maybe the garage completely empty that and then start in another room and decided what you can get rid of and take it to the garage and use the garage as a kind of exit depot.

  • What a sad and terrible situation you have! I feel for you, darling. You are a brave woman.

  • OMG your so brave for going around bare foot. I would so never.
