Guys, i was wrong, stake the traps. the other day i was too lazy to remove the gopher out of the trap..left it over night, next day gone. Set my other trap secured with a rock.next day gone...i thought it could be a fox. ...the last two days there has been a huge grey Hawk hanging out on the telephone line... lazy bastard. If it wants fresh gophers it should learn to clean the traps and then bring them back...so i can use them again!

should use rage broadheads they drop it instantly

I like this....I like the Sweeny Traps.
Some side notes: You dont need to stake it down(just a string) if the trap works properly, the impact on the gopher head imobilises the whole body. I would'nt want to get my finger caught in that son of a bitch!
Another note: once you dig up the hole to locate the tunnels, and set the trap.find a rock or brick and set it over the hole...to block out the light.
I love to come back the next day and fell the extra weight on the string...its like fishing

My Basset caught one this morning. I don't know what's worse, the gopher or my dog digging up the whole yard trying to catch them!

I feel so sad about the yard. Just horrible! How will the poor people ever survive?!

I used a heavy steel spike to follow the tunnels right to the border of the property, I knew they were coming from the north anyway.

Tent stakes work fine. Any camping supply would have them or Army Surplus.

I tried that, it just ran up the water bill and provided some free surfing for my new friend.
