While it is commonly misread as 'Jare-pan', as exemplified in this clip, the correct pronounciation should be 'Jer-pan' and its citizens alike are verbalized as 'Jare-per-nese'.
That said, I'm aghast that this clip is endorsed by the relevant authorities. It is certainly far from being an exemplary advocate of the Speak Good English Movement.
