This sounds almost just like the problem I had. I received an old 15" powerbook g4 (titanium) that was completely dead when I got it. Anyway I had it working but the trackpad would not work and it also would lose track of the date and time. I checked if the internal battery was dead, and it was not. I found that the PMU was the problem. It controls battery charging, the trackpad, and even the power button. I replaced the PMU for $10 and IT WORKED! So why don't you give that a try.

All I can think of is to call Apple. Maybe they can help?
