While other home builders are scaling back or closing down, Jeff Benach and his partners, home building veterans, recently launched Lexington Homes to concentrate on city and suburban infill projects.
In this part of a 5-part video Benach talks about home inspectors. His conclusion: if you're selected a quality builder you shouldn't need one but if a builder obstructs a home inspector, that's a warning sign.
It is much more necessary to get a home inspection on new construction- there are lots of fly by night builders out there who will try to get away with every little cheap shortcut that they can.
This guy is completely full of it.

IF a builder says you don't need a home inspection, that's probably when you need a home inspection THE MOST!
You're paying a lot of money for the home. It's a large investment and a huge portion of your future net worth. GET AN INSPECTION. Always, without fail.
If the builder won't allow it - WALK!

Having been in the home inspection business for almost 20 years, I can honestly say that new homes are the hardest to inspect.
There are always problems, some minor, some major.
I would agree with Bob above, the builders use the code as an ending point, not a starting point.
Most are unaware that the code can be exceeded.

BALONEY...
Anyone buying any home, new or otherwise, who doesn't hire a home inspector is foolish.
I've found bad roofs, leaking foundations, and jacuzzi tubs that rained in the basement on NEW construction.
While minor "easy" fixes are the rule, and many builders encourage home inspections as a form a QA/QC, that doesn't mean you are safe without one.

Anybody who goes to the bother to make a video for the sole purpose of trying to convince people not to get a home inspection has some thing to hide.
The stammering and nervousness of this guy is proof enough.
Fact:
In Illinois a developer needs only a business license and does not need any knowledge of construction what so ever to build homes.
Fact{
As a home inspector I find many issues with new homes because these guys do the minimum under code to maximize profit.
