  • are you going to make more videos?

    (o-O)

Shady Grove can be a little hard to play. If you practice the chords slowly and build up to it, then one day you will sit down and play it and say to yourself - "Gee! This isn't so hard after all."

I probably will make some more videos, but right now I am so busy and recording a new cd,

that it isn't going to be right away.

Thanks for writing and just go slow. Speed and changing chords will happen all by itself with

    a little time and practice.

  • Hi Madeline..I have a question..In the song Shady Grove you have "some come here to marry" Shouldn't it be Tarry? And for the words floor and marry you have the chord of C.. I was wondering if this should be the chord of Am because when I play it for some reason it just doesn't sound right? Maybe I just don't understand music yet that is why I am asking.

Have you thought about a few songs with different strumming patterns like this one as I enjoy your style of playing..Cheers

  • Hello, Yes you are correct - I have heard "tarry" also. There are so many variations of this song - you should play what sounds the most beautiful to you. Don't be afraid to experiment with it. If the C chord does not resonate with your ear, play Am - that is the relative minor of C and should work well.

I do plan on posting more songs - just bogged down with writing and recording.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

    Regards, Madeline

  • Hi Madeline,

Just wanted to say thanks ever so much for these great little lessons. I'm a grown man (in theory!) but needed to start with the basics and they've been really helpful.

    Cheers!

  • Thank you for the kind words. Although I intended these lessons for children, it seems most of my "students" are adults - I love playing and am glad to be of hlep.

    Regards, Madeline

  • Hi Madeline!

Recently I bought a small ukelele for my grandsons to "tinker" with - I had a bit of a play with it myself and decided to "go a bit futher" with it.. I've been doing your uTube songs up to Shady Grove but I'm wondering if you have any more? Or perhaps you have a song book or another video for simple ukelele songs. I'm more than happy to purchase them :)

  • Thanks for all the lessons and pointers. They have been most helpful.

Yes, you are right. Age is no barrier to learning. The ukelele is such a joyful and versatile instrument. I am enjoying it imensely.

  • You are a great teacher! My 6 year old son and I are going through your tutorials!

  • Thank you Madeline..Maybe one of these days I'll have half of your knowledge of music..Can't wait to see what you come up with..I hope the best..Cheers
