Lisa Edelstein, star of Fox's Emmy-winning "House," read an excerpt of Dr. Oliver Sacks' book, "Awakenings," at the 2006 Music Has Power Awards presented by the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function.

"Awakenings" chronicles Dr. Sacks' efforts in the late 1960s using the drug L-Dopa to help return function to a severely impaired community of men and women with post-encephalitic Parkinson's disease at Beth Abraham Health Services. Thought to be forever lost to the world, Dr. Sacks showed that despite profound afflictions, these "frozen" people were eager to pursue their destinies as the unique individuals they were before and after they fell into "sickness and suffering."

  • Extremely American but gorgeously so. The woman is so pleasing on the eyes and ears. Sweet and pure and totally disarming.

  • She's so passionate...she's so expressive, so intelligent, so sweet and gentle...she's the best!
