Hoofmechanism of my horse Volare up close and in detail. Here you can see why it is a bad idea to put shoes under your horse. The hoof works as a shock absorber. Putting under irons destroys the shock absorbing cabability of the hoofs and causes loads of trouble.

Because of their genetics? I am sorry, but it is a proven scientific fact that horse genetics, whether wild or domestic are the same creature! In fact it is also a fact that if a domestic horse where to be let go in a wild herd, whether it is a Quarter horse or a Thoroughbred that it would revert back to a wild horse. A horse does not need shoes, plain and simple. More and more horses are competing and working without shoes on all kinds of terrian!

  • A pad just covers up the ill effects of too much sole taken off the foot. It is absolute fallacy to think a pad and shoe protect the horses hoof. Bloodflow is restricted and you're putting peripheral loading onto the hoof wall which it is not supposed to have. There is scientific proof of that. Why anybody in their right mind still uses a shoe on their horses is beyond me.

  • think i would have to agree with you both. growing up on a horse farm we had tons of stuff going through the doors every week some who albsolutely (sp?) had to have shoes due to the fact of having soft feet . it was actually my sisters horse she used for western pleasure. she HAD to have shoes cause her feet would crack and small chunks along the bottom would fall off. but i also agree that unless you need to have then dont get them. another good thing is an impact pad between the hoof and shoe

  • Very true, dont shoe them if they dont it.

  • no i bought her when she was 6 they were so bad that she had to have shoes on her.

thoroughbreds usually have the worst hooves of all horses, because its their genetics and they get raced so young.

but my horse was not raced, her frogs are just so low that she would be permantely lame without having shoes on her.

i do not agree with putting shoes on horses that do not need them, because if there is no problem, there is no point tryign to fix it.

    xx

  • you put shoes on a yearling???!!

  • i agree with the maker of the vid. if the horses hooves are allowed to grow in a natural way, the walls and sole thicken and accomodate for any ground type. horses hooves are designed for that purpose. there is no good reason to thin out the sole or frog at all. how do you think brumbies/mustangs live? and their feet are more sound than any shod horse! just google the topic

  • im sorry

    but i disagree with you.

my horse has low frogs and it if werent for shoes she wouldnt have lived until she was 1 year old
