The TAC recently started a campaign leading up to the Christmas period to crack down on motoring offences such as speeding, drink and drug driving, seatbelt wearing, etc. There are 3 TV ads to support this campaign, and while they're a bit naff, I thought I'd stick them up anyway because there are no other ads going on at the moment. Apart from the new THINK! ad, which I missed.

This is the third advert, showing how the police deal with telling someone that their loved ones are now smashed up pieces of flesh and bone. Delightful.

  • Aussie ads seem to focus on the emotional.

While UK ads seem to focus on being as gory as possible. Which pretty much ruins the message.

  • It's interesting that you say this, because I think it'd be universally accepted that the reverse is true. Except these days, the Aussies are cutting back on it, because of recent research saying that people are resistant to it now. Same in New Zealand.

  • Cutting back on the goryness, I meant. They'd done it for so long. Who can forget seeing all of their ads on Tarrant on TV, and the stunned silence of the audience afterwards :) Compare and contrast to ads like this one, which is from the end of 2008, and they're worlds apart.

  • so you giving out free taxi rides ?

  • People are resistant to the gory ads? Or the Emotional ones?

The way you phrased it is a bit odd. Sorry.

Seeing SFX / Dummy people fly across the screen, and the a narration about slowing down to save a life. Is just - to me - funny. It's just too forced. And there will be times an accident just happens, even if the person wasn't speeding.
