Eric DeCossas delivers an inspirational and patriotic speech at the July 4th, 2009 Tea Party and Freedom Rally in Bloomington, Illinois. Our thanks to over 500 attendees who stood in the rain to demonstrate their love of freedom.
Hollow rant. Tea party lemmings are the irrelevant minority. Most Americans know that freedom is not free and are quite willing to support their government and fellow citizens before global corporate interests.
I am sorry you are so judgmental. No one at the Tea Party is averse to paying taxes for the necessary services. We do not agree that we should use government for redistribution of wealth or transfer of ownership of money for someone else's desires. It is difficult to frame an informed discussion of the underlying issues at a rally. Eric did a good job of presenting the ideology to a receptive audience. The global corporate comment is an unfounded inferrence.
When we pay taxes on income, sales and property, it becomes revenue, to be allocated by the government for services to its citizens. Tea Party goers call that wealth redistribution, socialism, class-warfare, theft and whatever other fear-mongering terminology they can dream up, when in reality it is the price of civilization.
Is there no redistribution of wealth or transfer of ownership of money when paying your mortgage or insurance premium? Please explain the big distinction.
Your view of government is socialist. Our government was not designed to provide services. It was designed to provide an environment of safety and security. Read Article 1, Sec. 8 for Congress' limits.
Mortgage and Insurance are products and services we trade cash or credit for. The badge of our labor, our money, goes to this "barter" as we direct, not as directed by others.
I agree that neo cons are trying to hijack the rallies, but most of us truly believe in a Constitutional government.
