Ian McCulloch leads search for the next generation of music stars

Are you bored with the kind of acts discovered on shows like X Factor? Are there musicians, bands and acts out there that deserve our attention more than the next faceless boy or girl band? Should we be encouraging variety and credibility in the music industry?

Music legend Ian McCulloch certainly thinks so which is why he is backing a nationwide search to find the best musicians in the UK and Ireland and help them on their way to becoming legends of the future. The lead singer of seminal band Echo and the Bunnymen, who have enjoyed consistent success over the past 20 years on their terms, is calling for the real talent in the UK to stand up and be counted.

Making it in the music industry requires talent, dedication and being in the right place at the right time. Pringles Unsung wants to give emerging acts a timely boost to get their songs into the public arena and give them advice on how to make it in the cutthroat music business.

All entrants have to do is post their songs online, along with a little bit of information about themselves, and they will then be viewed by hundreds of their peers for review, as well as by the judging panel which is made up of McCulloch; ex Island Records MD, Marc Marot; industry writer for Billboard and regular Radio 2 contributor, Paul Sexton and award winning producers, Bacon & Quarmby.

A total of six finalists will be chosen by the panel who will then perform at a private gig in London in front of a select audience. The overall winner chosen by the panel will receive an amazing prize including management advice, the chance to record a demo produced by Bacon & Quarmby, and the potential to release a download single.

Ian McCulloch comments, Im really excited about being involved in Pringles Unsung. I know myself how difficult the music industry can be to break into, especially if you sound or look a bit different to everyone else. But we need to encourage diversity in music, and campaigns like this are exactly the sort of thing that could uncover the next big thing in the music world!
