I had previously passed on this knife due to its $70 price and 5.2 0z weight. But at the current price of around $35 (sometimes even less) I have found it's a steal. The Randall-designed Model 1 by Ontario has an outstanding utility/tactical blade shape, full flat grind, an offset angle, good materials, pillar construction, super fast deployment, good balance, and tight lockup. I am amaze at the balance achieved in the design: it's fast and feels good in hand. After I lightened this knife with some liner hole drilling, I managed to get its weight down to reasonable 4.8 oz. All without losing strength. Ontario did have to save some money at this price point and did so with the slick Zytel scales and cheesy painted black blade. But it's still an OUTSTANDING tactical folder offering, especially at the price, and it comes razor sharp out of the box. The more I use this knife the more I like it. It looks especially cool DuraCoated. Get it while you can./////////// Update Jan 2011: I liked this knife so much I issued specialTNP DuraCoated editions...ultra-cool and collectible on this awesome blade.

  • Nutnfancy would you rather have the serrated or straight edge of this knife?

  • @RushRadi0 Nutn generally prefers straight edge in any knife. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Thanks for the speedy reply do you know why he likes that? and I really appreciate the reviews think they are well done.

  • @RushRadi0 They are not easy to sharpen properly and Nutn says that a serrated edge has no advantage over a good, sharp straight edge. Hope that helps. -- Veri

  • You put me on this knife nutnfancy, and I have to say it does not disappoint. I have put mine through hard use and it is still as solid as the day I got it. Great knife.

  • @nutnfancy Hey Veri, think it's great you seem to have such a good relation to your brother, such things are rare i think. Let your brother know his vids are beast. Thanks a lot for upload. Take care, best regards from Sweden. /Andreas

  • Is this knife spring assisted?

  • So I dont know if this is common or just my knife, but my ontario has an assymetric grind to it. It has a half angle on the back, kind of a downer that I have to reprofile this blade.

  • @nutnfancy Nutn what would you prefer the rat 1 or spyderco tenasious.

  • i just got a RAT 1 for christmas an all i have to say is ITS THE BEST POCKET KNIFE I OWN BY FAR i have a gerber paraframe with its mystery steel and it was blah and now i have a rat one with serration and i just love my rat also i found out about the rat 1 via nutnfancy
