Irv Weinstein - stereotypical Jewish name ... nauseatingly so.
-
3 cities I remember living in that had some of the best news coverage in the U.S. Buffalo,Cleveland, and Phoenix.
-
To add to my prior comment... please take time to look this up... "Eyewitness News Montage (WABC-TV)." An example Buffalo would do well to follow in.

I say, use the Cool Hand Luke version of WABC(used from 1970-1994) instead.
An aside... much of this video reminds me of WABC's "4:30 movie" intro.

Sounds similar to people in New Jersey when i grew up in NYC area complaining about lack of news coverage for them.
I guess the CBC and CTV affliates thought the Niagra region only wanted "Toronto area' news lol. I am sure towns St Cathernines, Fort Erie, etc had more in common news wise that headlines from Toronto.
This is news coverage at it's worse i guess.

These same graphics were used by WTVD-TV in Durham back in the 70's.

Going back thru memory lane is cool, but does anyone remember that Buffalo Bills show hosted by their 1970s ex raider coach, John Rauch. He had on Ron Mc Dole and peeved off Mc Dole big time, putting him down or something I recall and Mc Dole got really upset on the show. Next thing you know, Mc Dole was gone to the Redskins.
"Topping tonight's Eyewitness News..." Irv Weinstein was arguably more popular in Toronto and Southern Ontario then he was in Buffalo. Apparently Irv was shocked the first time he met Wayne Gretzky...Gretzky asked for his autograph!!

I grew up in St. Catharines, and I still treasure my autographs from Irv Weinstein and Commander Tom. WKBW covered more news from the Niagara Region than any of the Canadian stations. Even today they are the only Buffalo station that has any news from the Canadian side of the Niagara River.
