This is a 10 minute highlights film of the 10 day of the 5th World Buddhist Summit & Conference (5 days) and Peace Cruise (5 days) during which the peace memorials were visited in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

The Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism had its Inauguration Ceremony on the first day. A Reliquary Hall at the temple in Kyushu was also inaugurated.

Bhante Venerable Vimalaramsi of Missouri (www.dhammasukha.org) represented the USA at the conference with Sister Khema and two others .

This film was presented at the final farewell function for the participants on Nov 9, 2008 as the tour ended.

This video was shot from the audience, of the film itself, with a hand held movie camera. I apologize for the shaky camera!

This conference was put on and produced by the Nembutsushu Sect of Buddhism of Japan and organized by the Venerable Dr. Kyuse Enshinjoh, president and high priest of the sect. I congratulate them on their new spectacular Grand Hall of Buddhism and their support and production of this conference. It was enjoyed and appreciated by all.

The theme of the conference was to bring the leaders of Buddhism together from 32 countries to talk about unity between MTV (Mahayana, Theravada, Vajrarana) AND to get to the original teachings of the Buddha. Productive discussions were held between the many groups during this conference. It is hoped that the Royal Grand Hall will serve as a spiritual base for the 370 million Buddhists world wide for the next 1000 years!

Participants at the Conference included:

32 Countries:
The United Nations Representative,
Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Sweden, Croatia, Austria, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos PDR, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Uganda, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Spain, Singapore, Russia, Italy, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Mexico, India, France, Canada, Brazil, Bhutan, Mongolia, Malaysia.

Royalty included: The King, and Queen Mother of Cambodia, Former President of Mongolia, various dignitaries from Thailand, Laos, Uganda, Bhutan, Vietnam.

  • Hi

The Dali Lama was rumored to be at the conference but evidently attended yet another conference at the same time in Tokyo. Too bad about that.

The next World Buddhist Conference will be in Vietnam -Hanoi-in November

  • The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. ~Albert Einstein
