Martian rock is more than a million times rarer than gold and meteorite dealers are selling the rocks for over $20,000.
The Tissint martian meteorite is a Martian, olivine-phyric shergottite. History: The 18th july 2011, a bright fireball was observed in the region of the Oued Drâa valley (east of Tata, Morocco) by several people at about 2 am local time (H. Chennaoui Aoudjehane and A. Aaronson)
A fireball was witnessed by Nomads in the Sahara in July 2011 during the day around noon. Several pieces were later discovered by Nomads, mostly broken during impact on the hard surface of the desert pavement.
One small unbroken 28.5g oriented stone covered by glossy fresh fusion crust was discovered by a Nomad and acquired by Luc Labenne owner of the company Labenne Meteorites (www.meteorites.tv). More pieces, mostly fragments, were purchased at the same time and some given for scientific investigation.
This Martian meteorite is under investigation in several institutions.
Later in October 2011, nomads began to find several fusion-crusted stones, the largest stone weighing 987 g, with a total weight of around 7 kg.
