Grand hotel is a metaphor of Life and death and a glimpse into the wold of the Wiemar republic two years before the rise of Hitler and the Third Rich
The Love triangle within the film is Between Grusinskaya - a Dancer at the point of suicide (Greta Garbo),The Baron man man without a penny who steals from wealthy Hotel guests(John Barrymore, Drews Grandfather) and Flaemmchen - the Stenographer(Joan Crawford) a young woman trying to work her way up in life by any means necessary, I thought it would be an appropriate mixture with David Mays Superstar'' asthese people are cinema gods , also featuring Mr Wallace Beery (the Champ)as General Director Preysing a brutish , hypocritical selfish forerunner of the new Germany and everything it would bring on ordinary good people,
The Film was the first time more than two big names were brought into a film, and where the term "all star Cast " Comes from, its can seem like a bit of an old fashioned shaky soap opera but in actually fact Grand Hotel shows us life we check in , we strive for money ,salvation of love, and soon we check out and someone else sleeps in our bed and occupies the space we once did, its all about how we spend our time.

In 2007, Grand Hotel was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant

It is the only film to have won the Academy Award for Best Picture without obtaining nominations in any other categories. The award was presented to Irving Thalberg, with no mention of Paul Bern. In addition, Garbo's line "I want to be alone" was voted #30 in the list of AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes.
