Hidden Heroes was a show that aired on TNN, chronicling a lot of the behind the scenes work in auto racing. This episode focuses on Davey Allison and his quest to win the 1989 Daytona 500, and the struggle to get the new 1989 Ford Thunderbird up to speed.

The conclusion takes you inside the team's reaction to the crash, and follows them as they try to survive the rest of the race with a VERY torn up race car. It also includes a VERY rare clip of the post race altercation between Davey and Geoff Bodine!!!

  • earnhardt hated bodine because bodine was the only one on the track that wouldnt roll over and play dead when the 3 came up behind him.

  • I agree. it's a good thing davey was such a class act cause i don't think that Yankee could have handled davey and the whole havoline crew pissed off.

Great vid. Makes me miss the old NASCAR

  • Doesn't seem fair, but is it ever fair - the precious Allison family and everything they went thru, but we still have all of the Bodines. God, I miss Davey!!

  • @txngasnguns Neither did my uncle, he didn't like him too much, in fact, he was always called a crybaby by my uncle. In a way, Kyle Busch may be just like Bodine, always angry because he didn't win a race and always has an attitude problem, along with running over people. Also, after the '88 Coca-Cola 600, Earnhardt gave him a taste of his own medicine.

  • @turtletwi I think Bodine got a little loose. I have the race on DVD. Waddell Wilson claimed that all the air buffeting off the cars led to Bodine getting into Davey.

I liked the fight they had after the race.

  • I remember when Darrell Waltrip was furious at Geoff Bodine for spinning him out in the 1992 TransSouth 500 at Darlington Raceway. At that time, Geoff Bodine was driving the #15 Motorcraft Ford Thunderbird for Bud Moore while Darrell Waltrip was both owner and driver for the #17 Western Auto Chevy Lumina.

  • Great footage here, i really enjoyed it. thanks

  • There's a lot of things that make me miss "the old NASCAR".

  • Bodine's so full of crap. he was next to davey and turned left right into him.

Bodine's a has-been and if davey were still alive he'd probably own his own race team by now kinda like what Dale Sr did.
