After researching and fooling around with Wii Homebrew, I was able to run the Twilight Princess exploit to run current Wii homebrew. In this video, I demonstrate playing the SNES version of Doom with the Wii port of Snes9x.

This video is REAL. For more information on how to do this or anything, visit the following website:
http://wiibrew.org

You'll need a copy of Twilight Princess and a Wii that matches your region (US game on US Wii for example), an SD card, an SD reader on or for your computer, and a GameCube controller for the homebrew (Wii remote is currently not compatible).

Update 7/31/09:
This video is OLD! Disregard it in terms of modern information! This video was made when the very, very first stages of homebrew were being presented. It has come a LONG, LONG way since then.

  • what kind of controller are you using?

  • @Left4Danny2 To play the emulator? It was a standard Nintendo GameCube controller.

  • why dont you use the Game cubes Homebrew? Just put the dvd with a lot of genesis master system, snes emulators in the drive and here we go! It would make sens if with the TH or the HB C , we could use the classic controller or even the remote ...

but it isnt the case...so what is the difference?

  • Well, I uploaded this video in April. At the time, there WAS no HBC or anything like that. Wii Homebrew was in an extremely basic beginning stage. It has since grown tremendously and yes, this video is very outdated now.

  • You should try the Homebrew Channel sometime, that way you only need to do the twilight hack to install it, then you don't have to do it again. Then you can run any homebrew from the Homebrew Channel without using the Twilight Hack.

  • I actually did install the Homebrew Channel after the latest update came out preventing the Twilight Hack from working.

  • What about wii Doom? It's a homebrew port for the wii, the only thing you need is a SD camera card. Wii Doom needs the Doom WAD file from the pc version. You can even use Wii Doom to play Doom 2 and Final Doom. Since wii doom is a fan made port for the wii it is exactly like the PC version and has better visuals. Though it is worth noting that the current version is having some trouble with controls.

  • My wii remote isn't working for any of the roms that I have any help I'm running wii 4.3

  • @NightmareSquad Cool. Thats the on I use for Snes9x. too.

  • When i see the lame room/envirment I get SOOOO pissed.

  • You gotta love how with every set of homebrew applications on consoles, the first things to come out are emulators, and DOOM. The psp doom kicks ass, it's basically a WAD-reader.

  • SNES Doom is the only port that has all three episodes intact (with the exclusion of like 3 levels) plus all of the original weapons, enemies, and secrets.

Not even the playstation port was as accurate. They mutilated the music, redesigned some of the levels, and totally redid some of the final stages.

I mean, sure the resolution sucks and the floor/ ceiling texture are missing, but if your looking for a truly accurate port with decent game play, SNES was pretty good.

  • This still works on 3.4

  • Uhmis it now working for version 3.3 and above?

or is it still beter if I downgrade my wii?

and are there any risks for downgrading?
