Daymn- it's hard to play out there in the desert! But we did it: Built a stage. I personally dug post holes and screwed together lumber with an makeshift construction crew from sundown to 2am on Monday night. Rigged up a sound system from my 6x10 Eden cabs that I used with Whitesnake. We brought live danceable funk & RnB to the Playa. This was a dream of mine for 10 years- since my first burn in 2001. Here's just a little sample from The Crossroads Live Experience camp, located at 9 o'clock between Esplanade and Anniversary.
This first year theme camp brought live sets of music Tuesday thru Saturday at The 2011 Burning Man event- an experiment in community & radical self reliance, all in the large scale city that the desert allows us to create. Black Rock City is the 3rd largest city in Nevada for the week that it exists. There's no advertising, buying or selling of anything there (except ice). It's one of the harshest environments known to man in terms of sustaining life. There are no trash cans, yet you cannot even find so much as a cigarette butt on the ground after 50,000+ citizens have their own adventures and experiences in the desert. It can get hot, cold, dusty, rainy etc. If you don't lotion your feet at least every other day, you will probably have to go to the hospital as the playa floor is a microscopic dust that is alkali in nature, and is drying out your feet and body in real time- no joke! You bring you own water, and pack out your own trash. There are serviced porta potties, so that's a good thing. Anyways... Look it up for more info. It's one of best things I've ever done and will continue as long as possible.

Wow, amazed at how many bands are showing up on the playa! Our funk/fusion band Gravybrain has brought our entire band out 4 years in a row, 2nd year as a theme camp this year (We were at 6:45/A). We had the pink elephant mutant vehicle.
