The biggest event in the life of young Elvis was the Tupelo tornado. It tore threw down leaving death and devastation in its wake. We uncovered this newsreel footage showing the damage to the city. The African American community of Shakerag was nearly completely wiped out. It was filled in, covered over and forgotten.
@mrpitv I am from Tupelo, and yes his house was damaged at the time in the tornado. Don't know if you've ever seen one, but this if flat land here, for the best part and if you were in Tupelo at that time you would've seen it. It was huge, for one, but if you see one, even from a distance..and you live you have survived it! Tornado's are the most destructive and most unpredictable storm that exists. Can turn at any time and choose a new path. He survived it. <3.

Tornadoes are scary things.
If you saw one, you will understand.

@mrpitv But if that is the case, then he still didn't survive the storm because they weren't in the storm's path. That's the whole point here. The story makes it sound like they were in the tornado when, in fact, they were not. It'd be like saying my grandparents survived it, even though they were 20 miles away that night.

@CombatSportFan Don't mean to split hairs but he did survive the storm. Literally. According to his mother's account there was some damage to the roof of their home. They sat out the storm at a relatives house out of harms way.

"Elvis survived the tornado" is a myth. Elvis' boyhood home was not in the path of this storm, and thus he did not survive it because he was not in it to survive it.
