Bring in the Doobie Brothers.

@Mattdrumin101 Alexis is right, Louie Bellson and Billy Cobham are two examples of great drummers that can use double bass respectably (I'm sure there are more, I just cant think of any right now). However what you said is undoubtably true, most popular drummers are terrible. There are some good modern day drummers though, you just have to look in the right places, like in new jazz fusion coming from Chris Potter's Underground. Check out his drummer Nate Smith, he is unbelievably good.

@Mattdrumin101 Let's go back to the old days of drumming : Louis Bellson and his double bass drum with the Duke, 20"x 11" Bass (right foot), 22"x 11" Bass (left foot), 12x8" & 13x9" top toms, 14x14" & 16x14" floor toms. 1940's 6.5" x 14 snare drum. Blast Beat ? Listen to Tony Williams with Miles Davis and you will hear blast beats. Please, stop being a narrow-minded jazzman !
