Jimmy Capps on Guitar. On snare is Jim Tole, bass is Lightnin' Chance, rhythm guitar and harmony vocals, Smiley Wilson, female singer, Kitty Wilson, Jerry Byrd on steel guitar.

Country historian Rich Kienzle says that "Gone", recorded in November 1956, "may well have pointed the way to the Nashville sound." In other words, no steel guitar or fiddles, and a more pop-based vocal.

  • I think Joey Heatherton had a better version of this song.

  • @switchhitter08 you made me laugh

  • I can't remember any jukebox that didn't have this song playing sooner or later. Did this country icon ever make the Hall of Fame? Oh the memories that come flooding back thanks to this man and his beautiful voice.

  • @gdl0748 Indeed he was a Hall of Fame member. R.I.P, Ferlin

  • Ferlin was raised and did his first professional singing in and around Flat River, Missouri. Flat River is no longer on the map. A couple other nearby towns joined Flat River in forming what is now Park Hills, Mo. (south of St. Louis)

  • @spacepatrolman dick heatherton was a an Mc at a shirelles concert in a shopping mall when i went there

  • @Gatorrock787 Joey heatherton was a cute breathy singer but more of an actress her brother was a dj and her father was a band leader that had a kids cartoon show the merry mailman where he sang a song about being a mailman

  • when he hits the hi note in "gone"his voice becomes like a special new instrument,he had such a great voice and used it well.

  • I remember when Ferlin had suites with Huskeys on them. I love his performance through out the years.
