They do not. Scientific hypotheses are testable. Religion is more of a need for comfort since people suffer, feel their insignificance in the grand scheme of things and fear death. Scientists don't claim they know the ultimate truth but religious people do (which is something I find both amusing and arrogant). Although one can't deny that the presence of religion is universal among various cultures, it exists in so many forms that apart from stating obvious moral truths they are nearly useless.
