It's finally time to go searching for a stronghold. What will I find?

A map might come in handy. Throw the Eye of Ender on the surface, where it lands would be where you craft the map. Then you know if you're on target.

Oh, and an explorative tactic: dig all the gravel, it collapsed to be blocking your path.

You should have gone searching for other interesting structures, and with your luck you would have found a stronghold incredibly fast!
