This new, free series is all about coloring manga and comics, but the techniques can be used for painting as well. I teach techniques in this series that I haven't shown on any of my other videos, so that is exciting.

I show how to clean your scanned line work and remove the white so that the lines stay crisp. I show how to color the lines without coloring anything else but the lines. I also show other techniques for changing line color, but the lock transparency pixels is the best, I think. I will be showing how to get that nice cell shaded look that is so often seen in comics, especially manga. In the end, you'll be able to apply this knowledge and create great colored works of art. 

I have photoshop Cs2, and when I try to lock the line art layer and then change the color, it comes up with the the block sign because the layer is locked. Is it because I'm using a lesser version?

@ZombieClockwork Are you using the transparent lock? It's the one that looks like a clear square, not the one that looks like a lock icon.

@gotmagzz No. Drawing digitally is the same, if not harder.

Watched all 16 parts. The problem I have is the first step, the base , the illustrator part. It seems to be the most important. Unfortunatly if someone starts to sketch in the same document and can't do those straight lines he can't follow your coloring tehnic. Would have lots of questions but to resume cos there's no space: although I like your tutorial I'm having troubles getting from a sketch with lots of lines and hashing to that perfect lines import file to apply your Select tehnic :(

this isnt the 'pro' way to coloring comics. professional colorist use channels

So when you painted over her face just for an example, I noticed you could still see her eyes through the paint, it that because that layer is set on transparency?

@architectus777 harder is a understatement. i can draw pen in ink a drawing with in a hour i'm working from 3 days to 8 hours digitally. and the only plus side is that i dont have to worry about the fatal error of the stray line messing the whole drawing up

also how do i make it in color

when ever i use any brush or color it's this grey scales thingy how do i change that ?

hey , so after i opened my lineart in photoshop as the background in cs5 i used the color range thing to make it lines only and hit delete but then it asked me what to use as a background after deleting the white background there was about 10 options without any transparency option or anything of that sort help ?
