I see what you're saying...but there is still the matter of rejecting God.
Jesus commands in John 14, "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me." John 14 also says, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."
The two greatest commandments summed up by Jesus is to "Love God, and Love others." A non-christian who loves people (which is a terrific thing), only completes half of this command.
As all people are made in the image of God, I would see that to mean that if you are a non-christian who loves people then you are loving God as well.
so does that mean that if you're a non-christian and you put all your effort in loving everyone as much as possible, then you are living a christian lifestyle?
Likewise...many Christians (myself included) often fall into the trap of "loving God", but forgetting to love and have compassion for other people...
This is equally incomplete...

That would be incomplete...the first half of that command is to love God.
Love God, love people...all else pretty much falls in place behind those commands.
