Looks like a great way to break your finger to me.

Maybe so, but I would imagine that a soft target would grab it better and twist. I've seen, twice, people break there fingers with a box end wrench. They slip their finger in the opposite end and go at a bolt. Wrench slips off, twists and breaks the finger. With less force than a punch.
But who knows, this mall ninja fob might work for some of you. I'd rather keep my distance and use a key ring bottle of pepper spray. But thats just my opinion

And only 1 year in federal prison if used in a fight. I used brass knuckles there considered the same thing. I got out of it with probation and a fine for being a veteran and being heavily wounded in combat.

Nasty little devices. Bound to end up in the wrong hands and be used offensively. The best defence is allows to flee. But if you do have to go 'hand to hand' at close quarters, then use your head, knees and elbows.
Silly devices like these only give people a false sense of security.

It needs some sort of palm support or else you will just break your finger and be in lots of pain while trying to defend yourself.
