One of the most powerful endings to any war film ever made. The bureaucratic officer is less able at shooting a gun than a child, while the disillusioned war veteran can only laugh maniacally at the madness of the world.

After World War 1 the Poles guaranteed that no Germans in Poland would lose their jobs or property this included state jobs where previous positions were held.

The German government on the otherhand pursued ruthless policies even before Hitler took power such as the wholescale theft and stripping of Polish private property and industry when the German army was pushed out of Poland at the end of WW1
