160 AMP RUN OF MY HOMEMADE ALTERNATOR WELDER DC GENERATOR. I MADE A 1 MILLIOHM AMMETER SHUNT WITH 12" OF # 10 SOLID COPPER WIRE AND HOOKED THIS INTO THE NEGATIVE LEAD. THE VOLTMETER IS HOOKED UP ACROSS THIS SHUNT. THIS RESULTS IN A 1MILLIVOLT = 1 AMP READOUT. ALSO, SINCE THE OUTPUT IS HIGH FREQUENCY PULSES OF DC, IT IS MUCH EASIER TO START AND MAINTAIN AN ARC AS SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO. THIS MAKES IT MUCH EASIER FOR BEGINNERS TO START LAYING DOWN NICE WELD BEADS.

  • what you don't even show the alternator setup. that is just an inverter petrol run welder...???!!!!

  • @mcmukmob

please view all my other videos on my channel

you may be surprised. Video #3

  • you can get the same results just by joining 2 car batterys , link them together so as to give you 24 volts . and a set of jump leads and away you go .

  • @spannerman69

Well you have to look at how long a 16hp

engine will run on 1 gallon of gas. This

thing is putting out 4 to 5 kw. I had a

professional welder use it and he welded

continously for 4 hours with it. How long will

your battery last. Oh pardon me I get it. You

will carry along a 16hp engine and a monster

alternator to recharge the two 50 lb

    batteries.

  • @spannerman69

That's great, only I would not trust a

    system that intentionally short circuits

a large battery which can easily explode

with all the fire spattering around it.

  • Way to ruin yer camera, bubba!!

  • @MrStimpy77

    Don't worry "Bubba Junior"

Cell phones are a dime a dozen

and they get updated each year.

  • So it is possible to hook up a generator to a little portable welder?

  • i should have also said , that you might struggle to use that setup in a field .

  • @mpmrla

i think you missed the point ,

for a quick welding job like the one shown and no chance of tipping off anyone as to your abilities , then two batterys are more than enough .
