This ESOcast is about the discovery of the most distant quasar found to date. This brilliant beacon is powered by a black hole with a mass two billion times that of the Sun. It is by far the brightest object yet discovered in the early Universe.

  • Go Europe! Great Research like this can make so many Europeans really get interested in and excited about Astronomy!

  • NASA budget is less than the amount spent on air conditioning in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, i wonder if they just spent a bit more on NASA what wonders would we find about the universe and what technologies we could develop.

  • @EuroSon99 not just Europe, international! -USA

  • So just to be clear... the animations in this video are representing tendrils of stars whipping around the quasar in real time, but I would guess that this is a misrepresentation of the actual time scale? Shouldn't a live video feed of a quasar zoomed out to the galaxy level be perfectly still???

  • The Cosmos is each day passing by discovering a little bit more about itself...
