This is actually their FIRST single. It was released in 1967. This song was later included on their first album "The American Breed", also from that year.
It's nice to hear the mono version (my album copy is in stereo). Thanks!

Interesting... haven't heard their version. I know the Monkees recorded this - the sounds like essentially the same arrangement

This is my ultimate favourite song from them. Unfortunately , I can't seem to find the mp3 for it. I can only find "Bend me, shape me", "step out of your mind" and "Green light."

@PCino45s2 Yes the Monkees did record it. I have it as a bonus track of the CD of their first album.

Sounds kinda like the Ides of March song "You wouldn't Listen." Great stuff, thanks for posting. Some of these 'flip sides' are as good as the hits.

This is as good as any of the more melodic stuff that came out of the Byrds, ala "I'd feel a whole lot better", or the early Hollies....just classic stuff...essentially unknown and undiscovered..consider yourself lucky to be one of the few people to hear this.

@PCino45s2 I'm pretty sure The Monkees recorded this song before The American Breed, although I don't know if the song was written specifically for them. The Monkees version wasn't released at the time (which is strange because it's really, really good) but it's an extra track on the CD reissue of their first LP.

@sixtiescollector I have that album. I got it for $1.50 at a thrift store in excellent condition.

A great group who never got the coverage in the UK they merited and their biggest hit, "Bend Mr, Shape Me" was covered by Amen Corner. Haven't heard this one from them but am I right in thinking the Monkees covered it?

It's possible! Goffin-King wrote many songs for many bands including the Monkees but this one I'm not sure. I'll check it out :)
