I like the unloading stages with pots moving out of kiln. The dog gives an unexpected sense of scale.
Great surfaces all the way back.
Do you side stoke?
What size kiln?
Do you fire alone?
I fire with a group at Ft. Calhoun Nebraska, USA. We fire a 20 ft. anagama for six days.
I also fire c.9 my gas kiln; and fire large flower pot at local brickyard where I trade pots for clay.
Take care,
Bill

Quick question- When using a wood kiln like this and setting pieces on their side / stacking them against each other-
Does this prevent ash glazing on those areas and how noticeable is the difference from covered and uncovered areas ?
I never quite understood how wood firing / glazing worked in that situation.
P.S. Beautiful work!

Nice stuff. Will you be showing a photo gallery of the work? I'd like to have a better look.
Great video! What kind of wood do you use to fire this kiln? Where do you find plans for a kiln like this? Also, is that an Irish Wolfhound?

Hi Vernon, I use a mixture of hardwood and soft ,I very often will use something like hazel to put on the pot under the side stoke. The dog is called Rhodee and he is a scottish deerhound cross,He's a great friend. All the best, Nic.

Hi joanlizcott, Yes the pots are all once fired. I use a shino slip glaze but also leave just the clay.

Hi Bill, I fire four 4 days, There is one side stoke and I have a firing crew of three others who do shifts of 4 hours. The kiln is 12ft long and 4 ft wide and 4ft high at the front. It was built as a temporary kiln 8 years ago!

Hi digidante, Thanks for your comment. When I pack my kiln with pots on there side or on top of each other it's to get as much variation as possible from the flame. The colour can be very different. Also I often look for ember flashing. The pots are separated with a refractory high alumina clay, Sometimes scars are left but unless they are really bad then it doesn't bother me to much. I hope that you can take a look at my web All the best, nic.
