She did that on the Oprah Winfrey show long ago. People didnt know it was about racism before they got at the studio. I think there would be very few volunteers if there was an excercise about eye-colour (who really cares about that?). An excercise about something as controversial as racism draws more attention so you have to be overt about the subject. I dont see how it devalues it. It is eye-opening for many white peopel because they think they know how it is (tummy-guy) >new experience.

That might be just her point for a first. Second she doesnt say white people are intrinicly racist. She (at the end) says: you dont do these thngs because you are white but because you are ignorant". The point is, everage white people have another definition and picture of what racism is associating it with the KKK. Many of their behaviour however are racially motivated but so ingrained that they dont realise it is. That is what she means. They can only change that when they realise it.

@BigTimeShowdown But the moment she starts stereotyping white people she she devalues the whole exercise and turns it into an example of the very problem she purports to tackle - racism. You simply can't say "racism is terrible" and follow it up with "and every white person is racist whether they know it or not".
-
@BigTimeShowdown But she devalues her experiments by overtly bringing race into the issue. If she kept her experiments simply about eye-colour, they would be an excellent lesson in what it feels like to be victimised on the basis of an arbitrary characteristic, and very valuable.

@youreaterpiknow ah but it does. Lots of misinformed YouTubers seem to have their own personal definition of racism, but when you stereotype on racial grounds it really doesn't matter whether you're talking about Whites, Blacks, Arabs or anything else, you are being racist by all accepted definitions of the term. People like Jane Elliott do much more to exacerbate the problem of racism than they do to mitigate it.

@michael99887766 lmaooo clearly you're missing the point! And racism does NOT work both ways. UNDERSTAND THE POINT!!!!!!

This isn't about racism. Its about control of sheep by a tyrannical dictator. There is no racist component in this so called experiment. Dividing people by some arbitrary thing and have them become them and us is nothing to do with racism. Its a phenomena known as divide and conquer.

If I were a member of that blue-eyed group, I'd scrunch up a piece of paper, throw it at the teacher and yell 'Rebellion!'
Because that's what the oppressed do, right? They have to stand up to their oppressors, even if it is futile because because you can't just let anyone walk over you. After all, that's how revolutions were started.

@seacoastofbohemia Um no because most people if they could would walk out that door. Just because black people didn't have a choice does not mean they are more resilient. They where more resilient because they felt they had to be. There is difference. Most people who have a choice take the best that they can get.
The young black woman at the end is sooo right. These tender white folks get so easily upset about stuff that happened to non-whites all the time. So who is actually tougher and more resilient here, the whites or the non whites? I think the answer is clear.
