You were trying to say 'y' the consonant, not 'y' the vowel, which was what you needed. 'Y' the vowel sounds like aa-ee (yes the English letters 'y' and 'a' actually have two sounds each, it's weird). Meanwhile, even though 'th' is two letters that you would think wouldn't sound the same backwards, they actually represent one sound so it sounds the same backwards or forwards.

you have to thing of the "y" and "july" as "ahh-ee" and so you'd pronounce it as "ee-ahh-[luge]"
