This film was Billie Holiday's first and last feature film. She played a maid named Endie. When she was on her deathbed in June-July 1959, supposedly people said she was getting better, she was going to star in another film (title unknown). But it was to late. On July 17, 1959, Billie Holiday died at the age of 44 in New York. This one of the many tributes i gave to Lady and plz check out the other vids I made. Thanks
Nigel

  • What is the song at the very end after Lady sings '..Miss New Orleans'?

  • @LoveForSure82, she sings "The Blues Are Brewin"(:

  • I have a copy of this film. It's NOT a great movie as movies go. But it is made a great movie by the music. Obviously, it's a real joy to see so much footage of Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday. The incredible wealth of musical talent showcased in this film is what makes it worth seeing.

As far as the dialog goes, this is my favorite line in the film:

"I'm sorry ma'am. If I'd heard you comin', I wouldn'a let you catch me."

  • ahaha

    I luv that line too.

  • thank you so much for putting this up. I was just reading about Billie Holiday and it mentioned this film. I'm very glad to be able to see this.

  • thank u.

  • Bellisimo, muchas gracias.

  • Miss Maralee wasn't foolin anybody - she was there to get some dark strange.

  • This is just great, thanks.

I read that they cut so many scenes out of the film because the white actress felt that Billie was upstaging her, even though Billie hardly had any lines in the film, and of course, they had her play a maid.

Still, no one could take away from Billie's beautiful voice and natural grace.

    R.I.P. Billie.

  • @bvscfanatic I love that line too !!! Bet a million folks missed it though !! ha ha

  • a natural...

  • it hurts me to see "Lady Day" in a maid's uniform...
