One of the great cheap guitars of ALL TIME! The G400, is honestly one of the best playing guitars I have ever owned. I put a HighOrder pickup in the bridge. Low output, a5 magnet, it has beautiful clarity, sustain, and just the right amount of grind. I wanted the AC DC thing to happen, and this pickup really delivers in that regard!

The Univox 1246 B is an amp a buddy turned me on to. Lotta Marshall character, but less gain, and a bit more 'kraanngg' to it. Wonderful clarity, and has a lovely smoothness to it that I really enjoy. I a using a Weber Mass, Eminence GB12 loaded 2/12 cab, and an old Ibanez delay to add a touch of 'liquidity' to the noise.

  • Nice jammin' dude! Nice tone. Is this the same amp that Jeff Beck used in Boggart/Appice days? I heard he used a Univox for a while.

  • Thanks Man! Jeff was using a different Univox from what I understand ( Hiw much he actually used it may be a matter of debate). Much higher power, and much more rare. I am perfectly happy with this lil beast though, totally cool amp!

  • Hey man, how hard/loud you gotta crank something like this? I hear the max output of these amps really mauls through transformers and speakers, but the tone sounds really amazing. Anything upfront with it, Distortion or Overdrive or anything? or did you jumper the channels?

  • These heads you really gotta wind up for gain, the channel volume is maxed. Now you can bridge the channels with a jumper cable, and that gets you some earlier breakup. To me, this amp has a touch of Marshall and Hiwatt combined. Plexi-esqe mids with a touch of Hiwatt crangggg. I have two of these, and like all my amps I run em hard, you service em properly, ( filter caps, ect..) you should not have iron getting cooked. It has never happened with any of my amps.

No boost on the front end.

  • cool vid and nice playing. EPI G400 are great guitars...Is that a portrait of Prince in back?? LOL.

  • That does look like Lovesexy era Prince doesn't it....lol Just a thing I have had forever..

    Appreciate the words!

  • @kevlar3000 Yeah, I almost bought one of these but I just ended up with a plexi instead. Never been a big hiwatt "kerrang" type of guy. It's a sexy amp though, I just couldn't find one for a good enough price. All the ones I found on eBay in the past few months looked shady. I got a great deal on my plexi though, so it's not all bad.

  • les claypool on guitar ?

  • I lurve my 1246B. :-)

  • That is the single greatest response I could have ever hoped for!! lol! It worked for me perfectly!
