actually the united states did not get rid of all the criminals. at the end of ww2 they helped nazi scientist get away and gave them "safe haven" in order to work for them and give them information on what kind of experiments they where doing in germany like any other form government they seek for power and knowledge search "Operation Paperclip" in wikipedia.
