at the time Joseph was alive slaves where treated well. But after Joseph that's when things change for the new king and slaves where treated poorly. That's when the story of Moses comes along to free the slaves.

I tend to see this movie as the more "for kids" counterpart to Prince of Egypt. Here, they tell you the wisdom directly in song, and the story takes a back seat. In PoE, the opposite is true, and you have to dig below the surface in order to learn anything from it. For example, I would use KoD when teaching Sunday school, while I would watch PoE with my bible study group.
