Colonial League boys basketball game between Southern Lehigh High School and Saucon Valley High School. The game took place on 12/20/1991 at Saucon Valley's gym. The game remained close through the third quarter. Southern Lehigh eventually won the game 49-36.

The three 10th-graders, Brian McKee, Jim Coyle and Dan Welker, combined for all but six of Solehi's points, with the 6-5 Welker leading the way with 17 -- including three 3-pointers, two of which keyed a 20-7 third-quarter surge that snapped a 21-21 halftime deadlock. The 6-4 Coyle, a starter last year, added 14 and McKee 12.

Meanwhile, Saucon coach Rich Mattes continues his search for support for his two marquee performers, juniors Shawn Crouthamel and Bryan Brunnabend. And last night the Solehi defense threw a blanket on Brunnabend, holding him to two points on 1-for-9 shooting, leaving Crouthamel as the lone scoring threat. The 6-5 football standout finished with 14 points, but only five coming after intermission.

When Crouthamel put back his own miss within the first minute of the second half, the Panthers held a 23-21 lead. But Solehi's press stopped Saucon cold (the Panthers committed just eight turnovers, but half of them came in the third period), and McKee drilled two jumpers after Chris Taylor scored in the paint to give Solehi a four-point lead. Then, after a Crouthamel free throw, Welker hit from the baseline and buried his second trey before Coyle's pull-up 15-footer boosted the lead to 34-24 with three minutes left in the quarter.
